The state capital Panjim is located in North Goa – a district famous for its churches, cathedrals and beaches. Three kilometres west of Panjim lies the Miramar beach. Four kilometres further on lies Dona Paula, where several resort and holiday complexes have come up around a fishing village. The main tourist attractions are the Calangute, Baga and Candolim beaches, along with the Anjuna, Chapora and Vagator beaches popular for midnight raves, especially on full moon nights.

Margao is the main population centre of South Goa. It is a busy provincial town reminiscent of its Portuguese past. It is the capital of Salcete taluk and the service and transport centre for people staying at Colva and Benaulim beaches. Margao’s Church of the Holy Spirit is beautiful and well worth a visit.
